The Feast of Santa Croce, a whole flower

The Feast of Santa Croce, a whole flower

Discover the flower festival of Monte Isola

It is called by all the feast of flowers, but in reality it would be more appropriate to call it “Feast of Holy Cross” and is celebrated every 5 years. But what is it? And what are the activities that can be carried out?

The Feast of the Holy Cross

Every five years in the area of Lake Iseo, more precisely in the villages of Carzano and Novale di Monte Isola, something wonderful happens. Everything is colored with magnificent paper flowers, all handmade.

This year’s edition has unfortunately been postponed to 2025, but should have been held from 13 to 19 September.

But what celebrates this anniversary? Well it has a very special meaning; in fact it remembers the end of cholera in these areas. As tradition dictates, the heart of the event is September 14th, that is, the day of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It is a procession in the village that instills in the atmosphere a lot of charm both day and night.

Activities of the Feast of the Holy Cross

There are many activities that you can dedicate to during these days starting from walks to discover both the places and the sounds. In these paths you walk slowly to learn listening to the world outside and inside yourself. The guide, Claudia Ferretti, helps the comrades to isolate and recognize the different harmonies united to their history.

Another very interesting activity is the itinerary that leads to the “Dame Rosse” and the cultivation of saffron. Together with the Naturopath Enrica Ronchi the group discovers the secrets and properties of that spice that is commonly called RED GOLD.

A third very popular activity during the festival is the trip of the three islands. Starting from the port you navigate along the western coast of Monte Isola, admiring the town of Carzano. You go around the island of Loreto and then make a route back to Monte Isola passing through the eastern shore.

Continue on the outskirts of the other small valley of Monte Isola, the island of St. Paul, once reachable on foot directly from Sensole. The journey continues to Peschiera Maraglio, then you return to the port of departure.

It is a gentle path that allows you to enjoy the lake, admire the three islands and enjoy the landscapes of the Riviera degli Ulivi from a different perspective.
